LHRLA was conceived in 1990 by a group of fifty lawyers under the leadership of Mr. Zia Ahmed Awan. In order to take both correctional and preventive actions and to establish a forum that could make legal aid affordable to and within reach of the marginalized section of the society especially women and children, not only does it provide legal aid but even challenges the law. It asks for law reform where the law is found to be unfair or discriminatory. It asks for legislation in areas where there is a lack of laws dealing with the subject. LHRLA directly challenges the set norms and asks for a change in the system.
